Introduction: the Online CV Writing and Career Advisory is a youth empowerment scheme that caters for early career professionals, graduate, and graduate students to help them establish a career path, accelerate career growth, learn soft skills and network for career advancement. It is a one-on-one online career couching and workshop that is tailored to each participant’s specific needs and educational background. This is a personal project of Makalay Sonda.
Topics to be covered:
• Learn how to write effective professional CV and resume.
• Choosing a career path
• Volunteering/gaining valuable, work experience.
• How to land a competitive job– remote, onsite and hybrid
• How to land a competitive scholarship/fellowship/training
• Carrying out desk research for job opportunities, fellowships, and professional development trainings/ programmes.
• Online Communications/personal branding/writing emails/professional LinkedIn accounts
• Soft Skills and Networking
• Entrepreneurship as a side hustle.
Date and duration: Starting March 2024 . A one-month flexible workshop. Meet four times in a month- online via Zoom.
Requirements: Be a graduate or a graduate student in Sierra Leone. A Sierra Leonean. Have a laptop or phone with strong internet connection.
Who will be your personal coach and tutor?
Makalay Saidiatu Sonda . She is an Agricultural Communication and Media lecturer at Njala University. Makalay Sonda is an academic and a communications, gender and development consultant. She has over eight years of professional work experience in research and teaching, communications and media, development, and gender. She was awarded the highly competitive Ireland-Africa Fellows Programme Scholarship award. This gave her an opportunity to study on a full scholarship for a one-year master’s programme at the University of Galway, Ireland.
Her credentials: At 29 years old, she holds a B.A Hons degree in Mass Communication from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, an M.Sc. in Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology and an M.A in Gender, Globalisation and Rights.
