(A Sequel to our previous post- ” The Will of a CBO to Bring Change in its Community; Young Women Who Dare the Darest”)

The MoonTeen School Club is a new Phenomenon in Kori Chiefdom, Moyamba District, Sierra Leone. Kori chiefdom being a rural traditional community , this initiative is quite daring as the school club is pushing barriers and engaging girls on sex and reproductive health education, rape, child abuse, domestic violence and child marriage etc. These topics such as sex and reproductive health are mostly hardly discussed in school or home because of taboo and other social norms. The organization, MoonTeen believes that when girls are able to access accurate information on topics such as sex, reproductive health, they will be able to make informed choices. This they believe will help reduce teenage pregnancy. The district has one of the highest teenage pregnancy rate in the country.

Also the school club is a place where girls can be mentored to have dreams and reach their full potentials, there by becoming productive citizens. To help girls express themselves on issues that affect them they also learn arts such as poetry, drama, spoken words, writing essays. These arts are used not only to express problems faced but also to build self confidence.

Keep it up MoonTeen! Thumbs up for you👍
